Notary services available by appointment only. No walk-ins allowed.
The library notary will provide service free of charge, but may decline to provide notary service at their discretion. Reasons may be, but are not limited to, authenticity, ambiguity, doubt, or uncertainty. The library can NOT provide witnesses, and patron can NOT solicit library staff or other patrons to serve as a witness. Staff can NOT provide legal advice regarding documents to be notarized, and can NOT assist in preparation of documents.
Both patron and their witness must bring a valid government photo ID to notary appointment, and the name on the ID must exactly match the name on the document to be notarized. Some acceptable forms of ID would be: driver's license, current passport, or military ID.
Examples of documents the library can NOT notarize: vital records such as birth, death, or marriage, any pre-signed document, dispositions, wills, or power of attorney, and documents in languages other than English.
Examples of documents the library can notarize: acknowledgements, oaths and affirmations, attestations and jurats, signature witnessing, and verifications.
