Goodreads Summery

We all know about Winnie the Pooh—the yellow bear in a little red shirt, who has a soft voice and loving demeanor. However, that was not the Winnie the Pooh that came first. A.A. Milne created Winnie the Pooh, inspired by his son, Christopher Robin, and his stuffed animal collection. I chose to pick up this book at 24 because, in 2026, Winnie the Pooh turns 100. Winnie the Pooh (1926) is a book that represents childhood innocence and imagination, and serves as a timeless reminder that childhood is meant to be full of whimsy and wonder.

The book still brings a cozy feeling to the reader. All of our favorite characters still bring smiles to the faces of readers even after 100 years. My favorite part of the book is when Pooh and Piglet are trying to put together presents for Eeyore to cheer him up. Pooh gets a small jar of honey to give, and Piglet asks whether they can say it is from both of them. Pooh says no because that would be a bad idea, so Piglet decides to give Eeyore a balloon instead.

The illustrations within this story are iconic. You see these illustrations everywhere, from nurseries, libraries, and schools. How could you not love the simple yet adorable drawings that any child would giggle at? Please come visit us and Winnie the Pooh at the Florence County Library.
