Goodreads Summary

Thoughts:

What do you get when you cross heavy metal, demons, and Lord of the Rings? This book, apparently. I’m not the biggest horror fan- I’m squeamish, easily scared, and did I mention squeamish? Very squeamish. But I’ll give anything a shot if it catches my eye, and just about anything from Grady Hendrix does. His writing has a way of getting right under your skin in all the right ways, and We Sold Our Souls is no exception. It’s not a gorefest like some of the genre- though there is one scene that really sticks with me, and is definitely going to make me a bit wary of rest stops from here on out… But I won’t spoil it any more than that!

If this is Lord of the Rings, Kris is a heck of a lot tougher than Frodo, but no less easy to root for. Hers is the only straightforward role in this twisted journey. Even the antagonist is sort of a combination of Sauron and the One Ring itself, but he would see himself as Aragorn, the king returning to rule. It’s sort of like Hendrix’s version of Lord of the Rings, or The Stand- maybe not his masterpiece, but his grand adventure novel, his take on good-versus-evil. In my opinion, it’s not quite on par with The Stand, but if you enjoyed it, I would definitely give this one a shot!
