Goodreads Summary

Ryland Grace wakes up in space with no memory of how or why he is there.  His memory starts coming back after a bit, and he realizes that he is trying to save Earth.  As he is figuring out a way, he meets a ship and then an alien he names Rocky.  Can they save the universe?

I had heard of the book as it had won some awards, but I never really thought about trying the book until the movie was coming out.  I listened to the book, which was a big plus for me.  I don’t think I would have made it through the book with all the scientific stuff, as that is not my forte.  The narrator, Ray Porter, was great.  He kept me engaged the whole time, even through all the sciency stuff.  The humor throughout the book was great.  I wasn’t expecting the humor, but it helped break through the sad and anxious parts.

The relationship between Grace and Rocky was everything.  They learned how to communicate and became friends.  It was weird to think that it could happen, but it worked out great.

The movie came out on March 20, and I went to see it.  I would see Ryan Gosling in anything anyway.  The movie does stay true to the book.  The relationship with Grace and Rocky still works out well and is fully formed.  I highly recommend reading the book and seeing the movie.
