For our theme this month of "New Year, New Me," I wanted to try romance for the first time in a very long time. Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree has been on my list for awhile, and I figured it was time to pick it up. The cover art immediately drew my attention. It gives off a cute and cozy vibe and really gives the impression that this is a romance novel. I do wish there were some smaller pictures throughout the book so that we can see this art style better. However, it might be a little distracting throughout the book.
I like the story with Viv retiring from adventuring to open her own coffee shop and building friendships and romantic relationships as she does. I like Viv’s character. I believe Baldree did an excellent job of creating a character who wants a quiet and calm life compared to her past of adventuring and battling enemies. However, he also does an excellent job of creating incidents that challenge Viv once again and having to handle them like the ex-adventurer she is.
This book was good, I cannot deny that. While I still do not feel the urge to read romance all the time, I will say Legends and Latte will be on my list to recommend to people. This book is a cozy read for anyone who wants something comforting to read while it rains outside and you're wrapped in a fluffy blanket. I will continue to read my preferred genre of horror and some fantasy books that involve more action, but I do recommend you adventure to the library and pick up Legends and Lattes.
