Librarian II – Children’s Library Supervisor

The Librarian II – Children’s Library Supervisor provides library services and materials to children, caregivers, families, and partner organizations, manages Bookmobile operations, and assists with the operation of the Children’s Services department. 

Essential Functions:

  • Provides exceptional customer service to external and internal customers. Responds to and resolves patron questions or concerns.
  • Oversees Bookmobile operations. Schedules visits and programming, communicates with institutional customers, and assists in arranging maintenance and repair.
  • Supervises daily operations of the children’s library and assists with departmental administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Checks materials in and out, creates and updates patron accounts, shelves materials, and assists patrons in finding materials. Provides reader’s advisory and book recommendations.
  • Assists patrons with computers, online catalog, and other library equipment and resources.
  • Creates displays, bulletin boards, and other activities promoting the library, literacy, and reading.
  • Plans, conducts, promotes, and evaluates children’s programs and outreach.
  • Assists with selection of children’s books and other materials as needed.
  • Assists with library tours or presentations for groups as needed.
  • Participates in the library’s ongoing training program. 

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Represents the library system at community events, outreach programs, conferences and meetings as needed.
  • Maintains current knowledge of library service trends and related developments.
  • Assists with operation of departmental social media accounts.
  • Moves and arranges furniture and equipment as needed.
  • Works evenings and weekends as required. 
  • Performs all other related duties as required.

Qualifications: Education and Work Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science from an A.L.A. accredited graduate program; 2+ years of relevant professional experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge and skills.
  • Proficient with computers, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, and office equipment.
  • Must possess or qualify for a Professional Librarian’s Certificate from the South Carolina State Library.
  • Must possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license.
