The Florence County Library’s Morris Gallery hosted a memorable reception yesterday, celebrating the opening of a new exhibit featuring the vibrant works of artist Nikolai Oskolkov. The event was a resounding success, with attendees enjoying a delightful evening filled with art, delicious food, and community spirit.
The exhibit was made possible by a generous donation of twenty-one of Mr. Oskolkov’s paintings by Florence native Willson Powell. Mr. Powell also graciously made a substantial monetary gift to the Friends of Florence County Library. These gifts have enriched the library’s permanent collection and were given in memory of the late Dr. N. Lee Morris, Mr. Powell’s first cousin and the namesake of the library’s gallery. Everyone enjoyed the beautiful collection of artwork, and the display of Oskolkov’s skill and creativity. Guests were also treated to catered refreshments and beautiful floral arrangements.
Moscow-born artist Nikolai Oskolkov, also known as NikO, now based in Columbia, South Carolina, brought his unique perspective to the exhibit. Having immigrated to Canada at age eight and later settling in the U.S., NikO’s travels through Europe and the Caribbean have deeply influenced his work. A graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, NikO is celebrated for his colorful depictions of the rural American South, as well as his atmospheric landscapes, still life, historical portraits, and mythical allegories. Attendees were thrilled to experience the breadth of his artistry, with many noting how his pieces, displayed in galleries from Beaufort, South Carolina to New York City, resonated with both local pride and universal themes.
The Dr. N. Lee Morris Gallery is located on the second floor of the Drs. Bruce and Lee Foundation Library. Nikolai Oskolkov’s exhibit will remain open until January 22, 2026. It is free to visit and open to the public during regular library hours:
