What are you most grateful for in your role at FCLS?

I’m grateful for the opportunity to utilize my talents and indulge in my creativity. The library has always been a place where various skills and talents are recognized and allowed to shine, but stepping into this position has been a way of making it my everyday instead of my once-in-a-while contribution.

What initially drew you to your field, and how has that passion evolved over time?

My mom instilled a love of books in me from an early age. She would read to me every night, and our home library was ever growing. Once I entered school, I discovered the library, and it became a safe haven for me. I volunteered in all my school libraries from K- 12th grade, and it was always a place that felt like home. After graduation, when my Jeff Corwin dreams had a dramatic reality check, it was the library I turned to again, and there I found my purpose. The part of the library I’ve worked in has changed a few times, and it’s nice to see that in all the various roles I’ve found joy in the work. What we do is important, and no matter how I’m contributing, I’m just happy to be a part of it.

Do you collect anything? Tell us about it and why.

I collect plants. It started small with a little Christmas cactus from Rite Aid to brighten up my dorm room, and now, 12 years later, I’ve got about 30 potted plants between my home and work, and I regularly purchase new ones, especially orchids (they’re my favorite). I also love planting a garden every year and incorporating new fruit trees/bushes and native plants into my home landscape. My grandma is to blame for this obsession. She started me in the garden young, and now taking care of my plants is how I remember her and feel close to her.

What are some of your favorite shows?

I am a big comfort show person, so I have several that I come back to again and again. FleabagGilmore GirlsNew Girl, and The Vampire Diaries are my favorites. Ones that I love, but are too intense for regular rewatching are Hannibal and every show by Mike Flanagan (Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, Haunting of Bly Manor, etc).
