ADULT SUMMER READING IN JOHNSONVILLE

The Johnsonville Public Library will host the premiere Adult Summer Reading Program, “Every Hero Has a Story,” on Thursday, June 18th at 2:00 p.m.. This program is open to adults 18+. Registration is NOT required.

The kick off for this series will be “Personalizing our Ancestors: Handwriting Analysis with Earl S. Dean” on Thursday, June 18th. This event is free and will last about 45 minutes to an hour.

Our other dates for this series are: June 25: “What is Your Story?: Memoir Writing with Janice Green”; July 2: “World War II Hero Movie rated PG-13”; July 9th: “Genealogy Workshop: Researching Local History with Three Rivers Historical Society”; and July 16th : “A Legacy of Letters with E. Drannon Buskirk .”

All programs are on Thursday afternoons at 2:00 p.m.


 

PRESCHOOL SUMMER READING STORYTIME IN JOHNSONVILLE

The Johnsonville Public Library will host a Family Storytime on Wednesday, June 17 at 11:30 a.m. The week’s topic will be: Superhero Stories and the craft will be: Superhero Cuffs. This program is open to children ages 2-5 years and their parents or caretakers. Registration is required.

This program kicks off the Summer Reading Program: Every Hero Has a Story for preschoolers! Participants will share stories, participate in movement activities, play games, and make a craft. Each program is free and lasts about 45 minutes.

Every week is a different theme and craft: June 24 will be Furry Hero Stories with a Superhero Mask craft; July 1 will be Family Hero Stories with a Superhero Cape craft; July 8 will be Community Hero Stories with a Superhero Logo craft, and July 15 will be I’m a Hero Stories with a Superhero Photo Shoot as our big finale! All programs are on Wednesday mornings at 11:30 a.m.

TEEN MOVIE IN JOHNSONVILLE

The Johnsonville Public Library is hosting our Teen Matinee Thursday on Thursday, March 12 from 3:30—5:45 p.m. by showing a movie detailing an out-of-body experience. . .and what we would do if we had the chance to choose. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

The movie is family-approved and rated PG-13. For those under the age of 13, parental permission forms are required. Please see the front desk for more information. CRAFT YOUR COSTUME EVENT

Summer is here! We want to invite everyone to participate in our teen summer reading program, UNMASK at the Johnsonville Public Library. We’ll be hosting events at the library all summer long & we’re kicking off with a D-I-Y afternoon of creative fun: Craft Your Costume!

On Wednesday, June 17th at 3:00 p.m., we will use an array of materials – patterned and colored Duct Tape, cardboard, feathers, and more – to craft the superhero disguise you desire. Cuffs & Masks will conceal your civilian identity so you can strut your alter ego whenever you need it. This event is open to all teens rising into grades 6th through 12th. Registration is not required, but encouraged.

FIND YOUR SUPERPOWER EVENT

Welcome back the Florence 4-H Club, and their mission to help you discover your superpowers at the Johnsonville Public Library! On Wednesday, July 8th at 3:00 p.m., get inspired to UNMASK your talents, and find innovative ways to feed those passions. Will you be a villain? A hero? A sidekick? Discover how you tick, and come away with new ways to express yourself. This event is open to all teens rising into grades 6th through 12th. Registration is not required, but encouraged.

KNOW YOUR VILLAIN EVENT

On Wednesday, June 24th at 3:00 p.m., the Johnsonville Public Library will host their second Teen Summer Reading Event, Know Your Villain with Jess Willis. Experience the magic of a performance that excites and engages you as we welcome back area favorite storyteller Jess Willis. Creepy ghost stories reveal a supernatural villain – what would you do to protect your own? Get ready to learn the secrets of the enemy. Even the most powerful superheroes of old take notes on what they’re up against.

GRAND FINALE – KINECT PIZZA PARTY

Every hero, villain, and sidekick needs to learn some stealthy moves so be sure to join us on Wednesday, July 15th at 3:00 p.m at the Johnsonville Public Library. We’ll be tearing it up with XBOX Kinect games such as: Kinect Sports, Dance Central, & Just Dance! There will be pizza, games, crafts, and prizes to celebrate the end of our Summer Reading Program.

TEEN SUMMER MOVIE EVENT

Are you hungry for an exciting teen movie? Come to the Capitol (or the Johnsonville Public Library) for this Cinna-sational cinematic experience. On Wednesday, July 1st at 3:00 p.m., the harrowing story of many will come together in a fight that could change the course of the only society they’ve known in this PG-13 film. May the odds be ever in your favor for this teen blockbuster.

This program is open to teens rising in grades 6th through 12th. For teens younger than 13, please stop by with your parent to fill out a Parental Permission Form to watch the film.
