The Florence County Library System is currently conducting a “Name That Monster” contest for area schoolchildren to name its new money monster mascot. The money monster will be used to promote the library’s financial education efforts and help teach financial literacy to children of all ages. The contest is open to 5K through 6th grade students who live in Florence County. The student whose entry is selected will be announced in late January 2014 and receive a prize. Students can submit their entry at any of six Florence County Library System locations now through January 10, 2014, including Florence, Timmonsville, Olanta, Lake City, Johnsonville, and Pamplico. CLICK HERE TO SEE ENTRY FORM.
Along with the mascot, the library will be launching a series of new programs for children, teens, and adults to help them learn more about money and navigate personal finance issues such as saving for college, planning for retirement, and avoiding debt and financial scams.
