A Wolf at the Table by Augusten Burroughs
From the author of Running with Scissors and Magical Thinking comes another book focused on the dysfunctional Burroughs family. This time, however, Burroughs’ father, takes center stage. In A Wolf at the Table, Burroughs chronicles life with a cruel, distant father who never quite viewed Augusten as a human being yearning for love and affection. Although A Wolf at the Table suffers from lack of drama in places, this intriguing work opens a valuable window into abusive father-son relationships and dysfunctional family dynamics. Overall, A Wolf at the Table is a worthy read that is on-par with previous Burroughs’ books.

In Stolen Innocence, the woman who courageously testified against FDLS leader Warren Jeffs recounts her experience in the polygamous sect. In particular, Wall focuses on the events surrounding her forced marriage to a first cousin at age 14. Captivating and compelling, Wall’s work provides an eye-opening look at a little-known religious group. This book is highly recommended to all interested in sociology, religion, or the human condition.
