Second Annual Adult Summer Reading Program

Adult Summer Reading

During the month of May, patrons may register for the Florence County Library’s Second Annual Adult Summer Reading Program. Admission to all programs is FREE. Registration is required. Individuals may register from May 1st until May 30th, in person at the Reference Desk or by calling 413-7074. This year’s theme is “Goodies for Grownups II.” All patrons will receive a special goodie bag when registering for the program.

Adult Summer Reading programs run from June 11th through July 24th.

Events will be held on Thursday evening with the exception of the kick-off event which will take place on a Wednesday night. All programs will be held in the Library’s Main Meeting Room. The program schedule is as follows:

  • June 11th at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. - Storyteller Carmen Deedy, author of Growing up Cuban in Decatur, Georgia - featured on National Public Radio.

  • June 19th at 7 p.m. - Herb Gardening with Master Gardener Sally Hanes

  • June 26th at 7 p.m. - “Genealogy 201: Researching Your Family Tree for Advanced Beginners”

  • July 3rd at 6 p.m. - Movie - “The Great Debaters” featuring Denzel Washington (Length 123 minutes). Rated PG-13

  • July 10th at 7 p.m. - Florence Stockade Program featuring author J. Michael Martinez, author of “Life and Death in Civil War Prisons”

  • July 17th at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. - Sweetgrass Gullah Arts/Make and Take Crafts with Mary Graham-Grant (will make a decorative pin). LIMIT 25 for each session. (This is a two hour program).

  • July 24th at 6 p.m. - Performance by Mac Arnold and a Plate Full ‘o’ Blues
    (This is a two hour performance with one break).

All programs are on Thursdays, except for the first one on Wednesday, June 11.
